Collective Community Guidelines

We take our guidelines seriously. Anyone who violates these, particularly with malice intent, will be called into a restorative process to right their wrongs: this is not a punitive process but can result in a permanent ban if restoration is not possible.

Respect and inclusivity are paramount.

This space is built on the principles of mutual respect and radical inclusivity. We are committed to fostering an environment where everyone, especially people of color, immigrants, LGBTQIA+, and youth, feels safe, seen, and valued. We expect all community members to contribute to an atmosphere free from harassment, hate speech, and exclusionary behavior. PePo is a brave space; meaning we often challenge aggressions as a means of educating ourselves and others – not as a form of punishment but as a form of care.

Empowering community and fostering trust.

We operate on a good faith clause, entrusting our community members to act with integrity and good intentions. This means you generally don’t need explicit approval from staff or board members for activities or actions within the space, provided your decisions are made in good faith and align with our values. We extend this same trust to all visitors, encouraging everyone to assume positive intent in their interactions with others. This approach cultivates a sense of ownership and collective responsibility for our shared space.

Prioritizing safety and well-being.

The safety and well-being of all community members, especially children, is our highest priority. We believe in addressing inappropriate behavior through conversation and de-escalation whenever possible, before resorting to asking someone to leave. In situations where safety is actively threatened, we understand that more immediate action may be necessary. We strongly encourage avoiding police involvement unless it is an absolute last resort and someone’s immediate physical safety is at risk.

Boundaries and privacy.

To ensure the safety and privacy of our youth, personal contact information should never be shared with minors. For any communication needs, minors can always reach out through the designated space phone number. We encourage everyone to be mindful of personal boundaries and to respect the privacy of others within the space.

Shared responsibility of our space.

This is our shared home, and its cleanliness and functionality are the responsibility of everyone who uses it. Please help us keep the space welcoming and accessible by cleaning up after yourself, respecting shared resources, and contributing to a positive environment.
