Your cell phone location information can reveal a detailed and unique picture of your movements: where you live, where you work, and where you hang out. Did you know that app developers and other companies have been selling this information to data brokers, who then turn around and sell it to anyone with a credit card? This shady industry has existed for years and is worth billions of dollars a year, putting our privacy and safety at grave risk. That's why the ACLU of Massachusetts introduced state legislation this year, referred to as the Location Shield Act (H.357/S.148), to ban the sale of cell phone location information.
